MEET-UP 3 | Practices and practitioners

Closed meet-up

For almost 800 years, guilds played an important role in the Dutch cities. A guild was an association of artisans and merchants who oversaw the practice of their craft or trade in a particular territory. They focused on the preservation of craftsmanship, production of goods, trained young people and provided social insurance. A part of this history is still visible at the Waag building; the former house of the guilds. One of the aspects TextileLab finds interesting, was the exchange of knowledge and experience within these guilds.

In the Local Color project we want to bring different practitioners together that work in the field of natural dyes throughout the whole value chain, bridging expertises across the various processes required from growing seeds, all the way to dyeing fabrics. It is with these practitioners, who also strive for a sustainable and holistic approach to natural dyes, that we want to explore where we can join forces and strengthen and support each other, to create the necessary critical mass to effectively ignite change in the field. During this closed meet-up we will get together with a small group of experts to see how we complement each other, where research can be exchanged and map different practices and processes on the Local Color map.

Are you an expert yourself and do you want to join? Send an email to ista [at] waag.org
